Miller's Building Supply hired me as a Boom Truck Operator. I was welcomed with open arms, friendly smiles, and positive attitudes. Very impressed with how clean the yard and material is, and how WELL their equipment is maintained. Thank you Richard and Doug for allowing me to be part of the team.
This place is not for the weekend D.I.Y.'er. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to build a backyard trellis and being in the community spirit, I wanted to buy local. I knew I would pay a little more at Miller's, but didn't think too much about it and went to get some cedar 1X2's. They didn't have them, but Lamar at the counter said they could rip some from 1X4's and 1X6's. Fine. What I didn't realize was that I had misinterpreted. I heard, "we'll accommodate your needs", and he really said, "here's a sucker". There was no mention of price at all, just whipped out a credit card receipt to sign ($$$$$!). I went out to get the wood, and noticed that the "1X2's" were not all the same width (later measured them: 3 @ 1 3/4", 1 @ 1 5/8", 1 @ 1 1/2"). Seeing that they over-charged me, I went back in to the counter. They obviously made just 3 cuts, and charged $5 for that "service". After getting my head bit off, chewed up, and spit out, I didn't feel like going round two with him, so I just walked out. It wasn't as much about the money as the attitude. On the way out the driveway, I noticed their sign with some platitude about God. Do you think I went back for the extra wood that I needed later? Do you think the next 10 people I met didn't hear about Miller's? Another project and I'll go to Builder's Mart where they're nice, friendly, and truly helpful, even for the "little guy".
