Karl, I've read your presentation with care and interest. It is evident that you have done a lot of work on this statement, and here I am with a short note. Not quite adequate.
Awesome!! So good! Super welcoming, super Mennonite, the best coffee ever!!!!!!!! :)
Most respectfully. Myron and Esther Augsburger
the best.
Having planted a church on Capitol Hill, DC, that is multidenominational while joined to the Mennonite Church, we have dealt with many different views, have found that there can be unity with diversity. But we have also recognized that Jesus is Lord of the Church, and the Holy Spirit mediates his presence and direction. We have worked with numerous gay persons, and have found that to live a celebate life similarly as we ask of 'straight' singles, is a practice that doesn't mean gay practice. Numerous gay persons in our fellowship have been strong advocates of celebacy to cope with a drive that is, as they say, 'not a normal sexual hunger simply focused on one of the same sex' but is rather an obcession that needs control or a victorious lifestyle as with any addictive impulse. We have found that gay persons are lonely persons who need the warmth of fellowship the church has to offer, especially in small groups. This is a work of the Holy Spirit in fellowship and transforming grace. I, Myron, write this because your very clear approach doesn't seem to recognize this as an alternative, a Third Way of walking with gay persons in fellowship.
